Mr. Barasha is a 1979 graduate of The John Marshall Law
School and was admitted to the Illinois Bar the same year. Following a brief
career as an Assistant State’s Attorney, Mr. Barasha has, for the past 23
years, been primarily involved in the defense of civil rights and
constitutional claims. Bill has defended First Amendment claims (including
protected speech, political affiliation and right to petition), Fourth
Amendment claims (including false imprisonment, malicious prosecution,
unlawful search and seizure, and excessive use of force), Fourteenth
Amendment claims (including procedural and substantive due process, as well
as equal protection), a myriad of Title VII claims for race and sex
discrimination, Title 29 claims for age discrimination, prisoner rights
cases under the Sixth, Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments and Fair Housing Act
claims.
Bill has litigated cases in the United States District Court for the
Northern, Central and Southern Districts of Illinois. A member of the
Federal Trial Bar, he has extensive trial experience in both the Federal and
State Courts. Mr. Barasha has prepared and argued many appeals in the U.S.
Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and he has appeared before the Illinois
Supreme Court.
Mr. Barasha was formerly a partner in the law firm of Kurnik, Cipolla and
Barasha, Ltd, in Arlington Heights, Illinois, for more than 17 years. He
joined Judge, James & Kujawa, LLC in 2001 and will continue to focus his
practice in civil rights and constitutional claims.
